A unique insight into the world of interior architect Élise Van Thuyne, with photos by renowned photographers

Élise Van Thuyne has been working as an interior architect since 2005 and has already renovated over 70 private homes, offices and studios. This book offers a unique insight into her world, in the form of various photo-stories about her projects, which could be described as both invisible and profound. The book opens with a chapter on Élise’s own home, as well as offering a detailed overview of the renovation of the studio of artists Muller and Van Severen. The photos by photographers such as Filip Dujardin, Tine Guns, Heidi Lerckenfeldt, Hannes Vandenbroucke and Adriaan Verwée add depth, creating a subjective and imperfect view of Élise's projects. These qualities are also typical of Élise’s work: you can recognise her interventions because of the tactile materials and her never-wavering yet unassuming attention to detail. The texts were written by Elsbeth Ronner, Joeri Smet and Bert Huyghe.

Élise Van Thuyne is a self-taught architect. As such, she eschews the concepts and rules of design architecture. Instead she looks at light, materials and detail. While her interventions are often radical, they are never aggressive. She uses pure materials and is always in search of a rough, imperfect and timeless beauty, even in the unfinished.
